Motorcyclists and Motorcycle Insurance Requirements
Motorcycle insurance is insurance coverage for motorcyclists. People often forget that motorcycles need insurance the same as any vehicle. You would insure a car or truck, and you must also do the same for a motorcycle.
Motorcyclists Need It
Coverage depends on the plan, but there are some simple things that are usually covered. These things include personal injuries to passengers or others involved in the collision if it is your fault, damage to the motorcycle and coverage in case the other driver is uninsured or underinsured. There is also coverage for other things like theft or vandalism.
Collision – This is for damage to the policyholder’s motorcycle, no matter who is at fault.
Comprehensive – Coverage for all types of damage, including non-collision damages, such as in the event of a fire, hitting a deer, or vandalism.
Uninsured Property Damage – This coverage is for when another person causes the accident, but lacks insurance or is under-insured. This insurance pays the policyholder’s medical bills, lost wages and more.
Liability – This is the most important form of coverage. If nothing else, a motorcyclist should have liability coverage. It pays for damages or injury to others if the policyholder is a fault.
Motorcycle accidents are common – too common to skip having insurance. If you can’t afford full coverage, than get liability coverage. It’s the least amount you can have and still legally drive.
